About the collection

A closer look at mechanisms, one interactive illustration at a time.

Last updated: 2026-10-15

Start with a mechanism

The collection turns selected mechanisms into visual explanations. Read the explanation, watch a recorded preview, and inspect the assumptions and sources before deciding whether the full interactive version is useful to you.

The current eight illustrations cover a ripple tank, dial indicator, desk computer, arcade cabinet, solenoid, open differential, four-stroke engine and automatic watch. Explore them in Subjects.

What is free

Public explanations and recorded previews are free to view. Sign in to save favorites to your Library. A recorded preview is not the full interactive simulation.

What the paid collection includes

The planned offer is US$9 once for the full library, including additions and updates for 12 months from purchase. You retain the versions acquired during that period. Downloaded files do not expire. Sales are currently closed; see Pricing for the current offer.

The product does not include lesson-plan PDFs, certification or a promised publication schedule. Continuing hosted access forever is not promised. Keep your downloaded copies.

Sources and limits

Selected illustrations build on the open-source Anatomy examples. Each figure identifies its sources and simplifications. These are learning aids, not validated engineering, medical or safety tools. See License and use for the distinction between MIT source code and this website's original material.

This collection is intended for adult self-learners, teachers and adult higher-education users. Account creation and purchases require you to be at least 18 and meet the applicable age of majority; see Terms of service.
